This webpage lets you see how different move sequences affect the cube.
People who play with Rubik's Cube's have developed a textual method of describing changes to the cube. The notation assumes that the user never rotates the cube; if the face for color X started facing up/down/etc, that face will always face up/down/etc.
The six faces are represented by these capital letters:
In move notation, these symbols means ”turn that face a quarter-turn clockwise“. Counter-clockwise and 180 degree turns can be expressed by adding either a ' (single prime) or a 2 directly after the face symbol.
Example: F R2 F' means ”rotate the front face a quarter-turn clockwise, then rotate the right face 180 degrees, then rotate the front face a quater-turn counter-clockwise“.
